Jack's mother has passed away, and his father is a chronic alcoholic who does not look after the children in his care. He beats the children and often chases them out of the house, forcing Jack, his brother, and his stepsister to sleep outside or, occasionally, with neighbors when it rains. Their aunt, is struggling to survive herself and is unable to help care for them.
 
Jack is also HIV positive. The team at Manna Rescue Home decided that Jack and his brother should come and stay at the home due to their dire situation. Since then, Jack has been doing exceptionally well in school and loves to learn. He is now stable on his medication and has found a loving home at Manna Rescue Home.
